What's needed right now.
The closet only works because people pass on what they no longer wear. It goes straight to individuals and families rebuilding their lives. Here is what helps most, what I cannot take, and how to get it to me.
This short list changes with the season and who I am helping.
Good, clean, wearable, in any size.
If it is clean and someone would be glad to wear it, I can use it. A few things I reach for most:
Coats and warm layers
- Jackets and coats, every size
- Sweaters and hoodies
- Hats, gloves, and scarves
Work and interview clothes
- Blouses, button-downs, slacks
- Blazers and cardigans
- Simple dresses
Kids, newborn to teen
- Everyday clothes and pajamas
- Coats and shoes that fit
- Onesies and baby basics
Shoes and boots
- Clean, wearable pairs
- Work shoes and boots
- Kids' sizes especially
New socks and underwear
- New in the package only
- All sizes, adults and kids
- Bras and undershirts
Bags and essentials
- Backpacks and totes
- Diaper bags and diapers
- Something to carry it home in
What I cannot take.
Passing on something worn out is more work than help, because I have to sort and toss it. If you would not hand it to a friend, it is not ready for the closet. When in doubt, just ask me.
- Stained, torn, or heavily worn items
- Used socks or underwear
- Broken zippers or missing buttons
- Anything wet, moldy, or smoky
Three simple steps.
Gather
Go through your closet for clean, wearable clothing and shoes. A grocery bag or box is perfect.
Message me
I will give you the meet-up spot, or tell me where you are and I will come to you. Whatever is easier.
It goes straight to someone
I wash, sort, and get it to a person or family who needs it. No middle step, no markup.
- Drop off
- A place we set when you message me, around Sonoma.
- Hours
- By arrangement, whatever fits your week.
- Pickup
- Message me and I will arrange it: [email protected]
- One thing to know
- I take clothing and goods, not money.
What a bag of clothes can carry.
A coat that fits means a kid waits for the school bus warm.
Interview clothes mean someone walks in feeling like themselves, not a step behind.
A full bag on the way out of a shelter means one less thing to worry about that day.
Have something to give?
Leave your name and I will tell you the easiest way to get it to me. I read every message myself.
