A community project in formation

Good clothes, given freely, to individuals and families starting over.

I gather clean, good clothing and get it straight into the hands of individuals and families who are rebuilding their lives. You take what fits, at no cost, and nobody asks you to prove you need it.

Based in Sonoma County. Founded by Naomi Fritzinger.

A rack of sorted clothing standing on the driveway in evening light, every piece on a teal hanger.
Why I started this

A closet, so no one has to start over empty-handed.

I have started over myself, and I know what it is to face a new day without the right clothes for it. A warm coat. Shoes that fit the kids. Something to wear to the interview you have been waiting for. Sonoma's Closet is how I make sure the next person does not go without.

Right now this runs on my own time, out of my own garage. Every piece is washed and sorted before it goes out, and handed over with respect.

Bagged clothing donations stacked across the garage floor, waiting to be sorted.
Donations the week they land. This is the garage before a sorting day.
Two folding tables and a row on the ground holding more than forty pairs of shoes, grouped by kind and size.
The closet Every size and every style, sorted and ready. You take what fits.
Who this is for

Individuals and families rebuilding their lives.

In recovery, returning home after serving time, or leaving a hard situation with whatever fit in a bag. If that is you, or someone you love, the closet is open to you.

Dresses on a rack under a blue pop-up canopy, set up on a gravel lot.
Clean clothing in your size, chosen with care, at no cost. You are welcome whether you come once or come back. No referral needed.
A rack of sweaters, flannel shirts and jackets standing beside the house, every piece on a teal hanger.
Warm layers Sweaters, flannels and jackets, the morning they went out.

Get involved

Leave your name. I will reach out myself.

Whether you have clothes to give, time to help sort, a dry place to store things, or you just want to spread the word, I would love to hear from you.

You can also reach me directly at [email protected].

This goes straight to Naomi, and to nobody else. How I handle your info.

Where this is headed

Growing this into something that outlasts my garage.

My goal is bigger than clothing: a real space, a nonprofit that outlasts me, and a fund that helps clear the barriers (a bill, a car payment) that keep someone in recovery from getting to work. My husband and I are forming it with attorneys, one honest step at a time.

Until that paperwork is done, I want to be straight with you: this is my own community project. It is not yet a registered charity, and nothing you give is tax deductible yet. The day that changes, you will read it here first.
